To spot a whale

My dad is in Cape Town for a holiday at the moment, and he has always wanted to go and see Hermanus, which is a seaside town an hour and a bit away from Cape Town famous for whale watching.

The drive is lovely, through the beautiful (if slightly dangerous) Sir Lowrys Pass.

We got there at around 3, and spent a few hours walking the (little) town. It was really peaceful, and the weather was fantastic.

And over the calm was the sound of the rugby game, coming from the local cubana :P Hehe South Africa won apparently :)

Oh and we saw a whale. It was pretty far out and wasnt doing anything too dramatic, but it was still a wonderful experience.

Memories

When you're dreaming with a broken heart...

In my second year of university, In September, I woke up in the middle of the night..with this unbelievable image in my mind..of this girl from high school, dressed all in white, sitting on the bed next to me..

The waking up is the hardest part...You roll out of bed and onto your knees, and for a moment you can hardly breathe..

It was so real, i could feel the warmth of her next to me, the motion of the bed as she got up, and the light from the window as she walked away..

Wondering was she really here..is she standing in my room...

And getting up, looking for her, and not finding her there...was more painful than having to let go of her in the first place..

No she's not...cos she's gone..gone..gone..gone...Gone

Damn John Mayer..I would prefer not to have remembered this.

Held up so high on such a breakable thread...

Ok..in all fairness the thread can hold something like 2 tonnes...

On Saturday after french classes I went indoor rock climbing with my cousin and her boyfriend :) was an absolute blast! And i decided to go all out and actually join the place, and buy the kit. So i now own a climbing harness, climbing shoes, a belay device, and a carabina. Wheee :)

Climbing remains the one sport I am constantly drawn to. There is something about conquering a wall that is just amazing...but I have to say that when I climbed on saturday there was no concern for marked routes...im way too out-of-practice for that..and even though i just climbed the easiest route i could find, I still felt soo dead afterwards..Damn am i unfit.

Climbed again yesterday...oh my poor forearms!! We did a bit of bouldering as well..its pityful how little time i can actually stay up on the wall..before my arms feel like lead.
On the plus side Aveshan (my cousins boyfriend) got his belay licence yesterday :) which is cool :)

The belay test is pretty strict, you need to know how to check yourself and your partner to make sure their harness is on fine. You dont want to be 30m in the air and realise that your harness is on wrong...
You need to take in slack rope fast, always be prepared for your climber to fall. And in the test the climber takes an 'unexpected' fall. Just to be sure. Of course I was the climber and that unexpected fall thing is damned difficult to do.

Its pretty strange though..no matter how many times I climb I always find myself questioning my harness half way up the wall..did i put it on right... are my straps doubled back ...is my figure 8 knot correct..whats that tearing sound...

In general the tearing sound is the velcro being pulled apart. This is not a reason to be concerned. The velcro is just there to hold the harness in place while you tie it on, it has no weight bearing function. But damn is that sound scary!

And when you're up at 30m or so from the comfort of the ground you always find yourself asking..if I fall from here.....will i DIE? I mean medically speaking, will i be like DEAD...
and then you look down and realise..if I do fall, I hope Im Dead, cos if Im not...

Anyway enough of the macabre stuff :) I absolutely am loving this sport...so if you're in Cape Town, I hope I see you on the wall ;)
